DISCUS

Discus fish belong to the Cichlid genus, originating from the Amazon river. They are referred to as “Kings of Aquarium” because of their beauty and vibrant coloring. At our Saigon Aquarium farms, we breed discus ranging across numerous color varieties.

Maintenace:

The most ideal tank size for discus is 120cm x 60cm x 50cm, equivalent to 300 litre of water. Discus prefer clean and old water, requiring a good filtration system and a change of 30-35% water every 2 weeks.

Water conditions:

Discus from ThienDuc Aquarium accommodates well to water from taps, after chlorine treatment.

Range of pH: 6.5 – 8.0

Water temperature: appx 28˚C – 30˚C

Diet:

Discus need to be fed 2 times per day. Avoid overfeeding as leaving food in the tank, causes release of ammonia and nitrite, making the environment become toxic.

Beefheart and Industrial food for discus serves as the optimal food source.

Behaviour:

Generally, discus are peaceful, but have occasional tendencies to be aggressive especially when attempting to mate and spawn. Discus can live peacefully with many other tank mates, however it is not recommended to keep too many species together with discus at the same time. Suitable tank mates would be tetras, livebearers, corydoras…
